Meet Our Veterinary Team
Our veterinarians and support staff share an unwavering dedication to our four-legged patients and the people who love them. Motivated by their mutual goal of providing the most exceptional care to the pet families in and around Irvine, our team works hard to ensure that you expect nothing less than the best at our animal hospital.
Dr. Mike Cao purchased Irvine Valley Animal Hospital in May 2017. He renamed it Irvine Valley Veterinary Hospital to honor it’s long history of treating pets and their owners like family, while also updating the hospital to provide state of the art veterinary care.
It has been a dream come true for Dr. Cao to return to Irvine and open his own practice. He is a proud graduate of Woodbridge High School and UC Irvine. Upon receiving his veterinary degree from The Ohio State University, he continued working in Ohio before moving back to Southern California where he worked at a busy 24/7 emergency practice for several years. At the 20+ doctor practice he became highly proficient with critical care, surgery and complex cases. His vision with Irvine Valley Veterinary Hospital is to create a warm and compassionate environment where high quality veterinary care is readily available and affordable to Irvine residents.
Outside of veterinary medicine, Dr. Cao and his family love going to the park every Sunday to work out. Other favorite family activities include going to the beach, spending time with their 3 dogs and watching the LA Lakers.
Dr. Maibor was born and raised in Boston, Massachusetts. She moved to Southern California for veterinary school and after graduating from Western University of Health Sciences with a doctorate in veterinary medicine, she continued to pursue further advancement in her knowledge and skills by completing an internship in small animal medicine at a local specialty hospital.
Over the course of her years in practice, she has developed a passion for preventative care, ophthalmology, and client education. Dr. Maibor strongly believes in the importance of partnering with clients for a team approach to provide the best care for their animals.
While the California weather is not suited to her fondness for snow and thunderstorms, Dr. Maibor does enjoy continuing to discover the charms of California, including the desert, local wildlife, and Sequoia National Park. Beyond her life as a veterinarian, Dr. Maibor thrives on reading, learning new languages, and looking forward to the next rainy day.
Dr. Allison Nunn
Dr. Allison Nunn, an Orange County native, graduated from Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine in 2013. Well-suited for island life, Dr. Nunn was involved with the campus scuba club and swim club, even going so far as to participate in the yearly channel swim between the Caribbean islands of Nevis and St. Kitts. She also helped take care of the inhabitants of the local zoo, including several precocious Green Vervet monkeys.
Dr. Nunn finished up her schooling by completing her clinical year at Cornell University, which provided an incredible experience in the latest medicine and surgical procedures. While Dr. Nunn enjoyed the beauty and wide open country of upstate New York, she much preferred the beautiful year-round climate here in sunny So-Cal.
She moved home to Orange County in fall of 2013, and has been practicing small animal general medicine locally since then. Preventive medicine is important to Dr. Nunn and she encourages her patients to come in regularly for vaccines, check-ups, and routine lab work. On her days off she can be found hiking or paddle boarding with her two favorite Caribbean natives, rescue dogs Piper and Gilligan.
Dr. Macy Jimenez
Dr. Jimenez grew up in Jersey City, New Jersey, where she fostered a love for animals and their care by volunteering at local animal shelters and working as a veterinary technician for years. She completed her Bachelor of Science degree in Animal Sciences at Rutgers University, before moving to Southern California. There, she earned her doctorate in veterinary medicine at Western University of Health sciences.
She has since continued to serve the pets and families of Orange County, and places particular emphasis on quality medicine and compassionate care. Dr. Jimenez looks forward to collaborating with pet parents to meet the unique needs of their animals while striving to do her best for each patient, every day.
When not donning her stethoscope and scrubs, Dr. Jimenez is a semi-professional bowler and competes at the state and national level. Training and practice keeps her centered, disciplined, and energized in all aspects of her personal and professional endeavors.
Life at home is kept interesting by her three felines—Tweak, Batman, and Sparta. When not in the service of her cats, she and her significant other, Patrick, enjoy investigating new restaurants and spending time with friends.
Dr. Katie Bennett
Dr. Katie Bennett is an Orange County native who completed her undergraduate education at the University of California, San Diego. She received her Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine at Western University of Health Sciences in Pomona, Ca. She was initiated into the Phi Zeta veterinary honor society in 2013. Dr. Bennett specializes in small animal medicine, but also dabbles in pocket pet and exotic animal medicine on occasion.
Dr. Bennett has worked in the veterinary field for more than 15 years, starting her career as a kennel attendant in high school. She has always enjoyed small animal medicine because of the strong bond she is able to build with her patients and their loving families. Her favorite part of veterinary medicine is taking care of her patients from the beginning of life to the end (and all the experiences in-between). Her medical interests include radiology, internal medicine, and soft tissue surgery.
In her free time, she enjoys yoga classes, painting, the sand and surf, and spending time with her golden retriever Koa and cat Faith.
Jen has worked with and around animals for over 15 years. She started by teaching handicapped children how to ride and groom horses, and later became a dog trainer. She enjoyed that profession for many years, but ultimately felt that her heart lay on the medical side of the animal field. She started as a receptionist and worked her way up to becoming a veterinary technician, and eventually became a hospital manager. She continues to work daily to improve her skills, grow her knowledge, and utilize her compassion and love for animals to provide all of our clients and their furry family members with the best care available, in a manner that will make them feel like part of our family.
